Can epoxy be applied over existing floor paint?
Existing floor paint must be removed by grinding before new epoxy can be applied. Epoxy cannot bond to a painted surface and will delaminate. We grind back to bare concrete and then apply the full epoxy system. This is non-negotiable for a lasting result.
My garage floor has oil stains - does that matter?
Yes - oil contamination prevents epoxy adhesion and causes delamination. We treat oil-contaminated concrete with specialist degreasers and allow proper drying time before mechanical preparation. In some cases, oil-contaminated concrete needs to be ground back to fresh, uncontaminated concrete. We assess your floor and advise honestly.
Is epoxy slippery when wet?
Standard epoxy gloss is quite slippery when wet. We always recommend adding anti-slip aggregate (aluminium oxide or silicon carbide) to the topcoat for garages, workshops, and any area that may be wet. This provides excellent grip while still being easy to clean.
